Dan Short for Sheriff
“That’s the way we’ve always done it” is not good enough for Dan Short. Read about why Dan Short is ready to serve Knox County as Sheriff.
Experienced.
Dan Short has fifteen years of law enforcement experience and over twenty-one years combined military experience serving in the US Marine Corps and Army National Guard. Dan is very well versed in leading large organizations and understands very well that to do so effectively, you must delegate your command to your subordinate leaders, empower them to make decisions, and back them up when they do. Dan fully understands how micromanaging his subordinate leaders will quickly lower morale and motivation within the Department.
Committed.
Dan Short is committed to solution-oriented policies. Over his career in law enforcement Dan has seen a trend of mental health and substance abuse issues that directly impact the crime in the community. He has also seen that there is a generational crime cycle in some families and believes the key to a better future is addressing these issues holistically and steering the youth onto a better path. Dan believes this can be accomplished with partnerships with local agencies and nonprofits to create a unified approach to these issues. This should not only include mental health and substance abuse treatment, but other programs to actively engage the youth and steer them in the right path.
Accountable.
Dan Short has a vision for accountable leadership. Dan believes community relationships as a critical part of law enforcement. Accessibility, transparency, and accountability with the community build trust and safer communities. Additionally, Dan believes that effective and accountable leadership internally within the Sheriff’s Department means ensuring our department has the competitive salaries and benefits to attract and retain excellent personnel and that all deputies and supervisors are properly trained and equipped for success.
